WHAT IS YOUR METABOLISM?
.
When people think of metabolism, they think of how fast our body can burn energy, and yes, in a way, that is part of it. However, metabolism is more than just how fast we convert calories into energy, but also how effectively we go through that fuel, as well as how successful we are in delivering other chemical reactions in the body. Therefore, our metabolism doesn’t only affect our weight, but also how our cells are able to absorb and utilize energy to have other bodily processes work.
.
What are these other processes?
💫Making sure we digest food and absorb nutrients
💫Having our thyroid work optimally
💫Making sure our adrenals are functioning
💫Balancing our blood sugar
💫Mediating inflammation
💫Having healthy menstrual cycles and reproduction
💫Removing waste and detoxing the body, whether it is through bile, urine or sweat
It basically is the fire in which we run off of, and if we don’t keep our metabolism strong, we are at risk of having all of these functions slow down.
Question is, how do we do that?
.
Well, our cells run off of glucose as bioavailable energy, for it is easier to burn through and utilize when compared to protein free fatty acids. So, having enough carbs in one’s diet is imperative. Yet, considering today’s world in which we are inundated with toxins and lacking nutrients in our food supply, there are a few other things one can consider to keeping this process a seamless one.
⚡Making sure one eats enough calories
⚡Trying to live toxin free (drink filtered water, buy EWG verified beauty and cleaning products, eat organic) by removing endocrine disruptors
⚡Balancing minerals in the body beyond supplements, but rather through good nutrition
⚡Focusing on building muscle rather than increasing cardio, for muscle requires more energy to maintain
⚡Keep stress at bay, whether it be mental or physical
Now just what does it look like to be “metabolically healthy”?

Let’s recap from above:
Our hormones are made BY cells to act as messengers in the body for processes to get the green and red light to work. If our cells are not nourished, we lack to produce enough hormones in places like the liver and thyroid and/or make too much and/or control the output and response they send. As for our gut, over 80% of our immune system resides in there, as well as the production of some hormones and neurotransmitters. Without a functioning metabolism to absorb and utilize energy, we will lack the ability to perform these functions.
