Why anemia is so common and WHAT to do about it!

WHY IS THIS HAPPENING AND WHY SHOULD YOU CARE?
Anemia is actually rare.
There are 2 reasons the prevalence has augmented:
1. Our soil has become depleted of copper, which is required to for iron circulation and utilization
2. Doctors are not ordering the correct lab test to check for iron deficiency

How can anemia be a rare condition when so many women get diagnosed with it?
Iron fillings have actually been added to our soil since the 1940’s, with the addition of the consumption of fortified foods (fortified breads, cereals, milks, juices, etc.), iron is pretty much everywhere. In fact, it’s the 4th most abundant mineral on the planet, so how can we all suddenly be deficient?

So how does copper and the right blood test come into this?
Copper is the only element that can actually get iron moving in and out of tissues through an enzyme called ferroxidase. Without it, iron is holding onto oxygen, but completely immobile, which can be dangerous and cause oxidative stress. Ever see a rusted piece of iron? Yeah, that is what would happen without copper inside of us.

Reasons it has become depleted is due to the over use and poor rotation of soils, pollution, as well as the usage of a famous herbicide called glyphosate. Did you know it chelates copper? Yup.
Regarding testing, there are 3 ways to test iron: Hemoglobin status, serum iron and serum ferritin. MOST of us, when going to our MD, get a serum ferritin done to check for anemia. Why is this wrong?
Well for starters, that’s not even where most of our iron is.
About 70% is in our hemoglobin, 10% in our myoglobin, and the rest in our reticuloendothelial system aka our iron recycling program, RES.
Ferritin is an intra cellular protein that is meant to be INSIDE THE CELL, NOT our blood. So when serum ferritin is present, it means we have a pathology in our body. WE DON’T WANT THIS HIGH, and yet we’re aiming for it?!

Anemia isn’t an iron deficiency, it’s actually a copper deficiency and that iron is getting stored in the tissues unable to be mobilized to be brought into the blood to build hemoglobin’s.
SO WHAT DO YOU DO?

Let’s review: We are all most likely iron toxic- some more than others that show up as anemia. Copper is deficient in our food system, which is required to load iron into the cell.

HOWEVER, copper cannot get into the cell on its own! How does this work? There is something called ceruloplasmin, the biggest protein in the body that is made up of 1066 amino acids!!! Technically, it has 8 copper atoms inside of it, but in order for copper to get in and become more bioavailable we need retinol AND magnesium.

So how can we avoid an excess of iron and get our copper status back up?
1️⃣ Eat organic food- it most likely doesn’t have glyphosate sprayed which chelates copper.
2️⃣ Avoid iron fortified food (anything that comes in a package is usually the case)
3️⃣Eat whole foods vitamin C because IN NATURE, copper molecules are found in vitamin C!
4️⃣ STOP ascorbic acid and any other supplement that ends in citrate. Those hinder the absorption and reduce copper!
5️⃣ Eat retinol rich foods like eggs, beef liver, fish, etc.
6️⃣ Do NOT supplement vitamin D UNLESS required. This can block vitamin A status.
7️⃣ Take a magnesium supplement!
8️⃣ Eat copper rich foods like be pollen, liver, chlorophyll, etc.
9️⃣ If you can avoid being on any medication that contain ferric oxide, that’s helpful, for that is added iron in disguise. Think birth control, ladies!!
