Adrenal Function and Minerals

ARE YOUR MINERALS BALANCED FOR YOUR ADRENALS?💥
.
Cue in potassium and sodium, 2 of your main electrolytes. Both are particularly vital for blood pressure, muscle contraction, regulating fluids in the body and transmitting nerve impulses. However, they also play a role in adrenal health. One of the adrenal’s main jobs is to balance blood pressure and fluid by influencing both sodium and potassium.
.
The ratio between the two is referred to as the “life-death ratio” 💀because it is so critical. Sodium is an extracellular mineral, meaning you find it outside of the cell, where as potassium is intracellular. Both are related to kidney, liver, and adrenal function, but are intimately linked to the production of particular hormones, which are aldosterone and cortisone, when they are low. Both of these hormones are produced in the adrenals.
.
A dip in these minerals is usually due to an elevation of stress hormones that tells the body to urinate and rid itself of the responsibility of removing waste. In essence, it wants to be focused and ONLY focused on the stress and get rid of it. This then results in the loss of potassium and the retention of sodium in the cells and blood, which can cause adrenal hyperfunction and lead to metabolic acidosis (severe electrolyte imbalance, where pH is too low)
.
On the flip side, if cortisol and adrenal function are below average, we would call this adrenal hypofunction, which could cause potassium levels to rise and sodium to drop, which isn’t good either. This can result in something called metabolic alkalosis (electrolyte imbalance, pH too high)
.
🔸️Tips to get adequate potassium and sodium:
Eat fruit, it is the most abundant source of potassium!🍊🍓🍏
