Cervical Fluid 101

GET TO KNOW YOUR BODY.
Did you know that you can tell the time in which you’re fertile based off of your own cervical fluid?💦 (including other factors)
Yup! For those of you who are struggling to regulate your period, trying to get your period back, or just want to understand your cycle more, THIS POST IS FOR YOU.
.
Dry spell: You all know what I am talking about. This could be a sign you are just about to bleed or have just finished bleeding. However, if you’re not getting your period due to HA, you’ve gotten off the pill, or even have PCOS, you may feel like you’re just really dry too. “Dry as toast” as Mr.Portokalos says from My Big Fat Greek Wedding. But listen, if you work with me, you become part of my Greek family, and us Greeks ain’t dry haha
🏜
Creamy and sticky: This can look a bit differently for everyone, but if you get fluid that is slightly sticky or resembles cream, this signals your estrogen is on the rise and your body is preparing an egg for fertilization. We would consider this the follicular phase. Keep in mind, you can have this same consistency also in the luteal phase, but slightly less as you tend to “dry up” entering your menstrual phase.
🧴
Watery and thin: Our body is still trying to build enough estrogen, but the more liquid the fluid becomes, the more optimal it is for sperm to survive and “swim” in.
💧
Raw egg white, stretchy: You’re most likely ovulating, or just ovulated. This is the ideal time to try and conceive if you are looking to get pregnant. If you are struggling to get your period back, this is the type of cervical fluid you want to aim for!
🥚
As a side note, you can only technically get pregnant one day out of your cycle, yet sperm can survive for 5-7 days WITHIN our cervical fluid. How? Funny how nature does this, but our cervical fluid is actually alkaline to match that of sperm’s necessary environment to survive. So that is why both the “watery and thin” as well as the “raw egg white” descriptions are optimal for sperm survivability.
