WHY IS THE MIRENA THE BEST OPTION WHEN IT COMES TO HORMONAL BIRTH CONTROL?
First, go check my post all about hormonal birth control
🟣It’s not because it is any safer with the hormones it emits,
🟣it is not because it’s more comfortable (because it’s not)
🟣it is not because you won’t get any side effects, (because there are)
🟣but it is because it is the only form of hormonal birth control that does not completely stop you from ovulating.
.
Why is this important?
Ovulation is the whole point to a period.
If you are not ovulating, we are not going to reap the benefits of what our cycle does for us (and it’s more than just being able to fall pregnant)
.
1️⃣ Ovulation is when we produce adequate progesterone to help bind to receptors on the osteoblasts of our bones and help bone resorption and reformation, keeping them strong.
2️⃣Our thyroid helps us ovulate, which in turn exemplifies that if we were to completely shut down ovulation, we would also be affecting our thyroid and other organs working with it. By ovulating, we produce adequate progesterone that improves many things like sleep, inflammation and metabolism.
3️⃣ If our thyroid is working optimally it also affects our heart positively, thus protects women from heart attacks, blood clots, etc.
4️⃣ The rise and drop of our hormones in a cycle affect our brain, and it has been shown both estrogen and progesterone affect it differently. By ovulating, we tend to have more control over any anxiety that may be present, focused and romantic. Studies have also shown that once estrogen peaks during ovulation, the brain’s structure remodels itself and ‘goes back in time’ at about 1.3 years, increasing grey matter volume. This means we are keeping our brains young and strong.
.
Keep in mind, just because you can still ovulate, you won’t know if you are until you remove it and check your 3 main signs (cervical fluid, temperature and cervix position) because the IUD still contains steroids.
