HOW DO YOU PREDICT OVULATION?
Bruh, you can’t.
😅
When women start trying to track their cycles, their first tendency is to lean onto a fertility app of some sort to help them gauge when they’ll ovulate. I understand, it’s helpful, and it’s easier, but this is the problem: Apps that state they can predict ovulation simply rely on a day 14 model (that you will ovulate on day 14 every single month of your cycle) or use your past cycles data to predict ovulation.
📶
Why isn’t this good? Because even if you have regular cycles that are literally 28 days on the dot, you will NEVER know or be 100% sure that you will ovulate on the same day each month and NOT all women have a 28 day cycle!
❌
How so?
Well, if you divide your cycle up into 2 sections: Follicular Phase and Luteal Phase, you will see 2 things happening.
In your follicular phase, estrogen and testosterone build up. This time frame from the moment you started bleeding to ovulation, A LOT of things can happen, such as stress, lifestyle changes, illness, nutrition can vary etc. All of this can either delay or increase the rate in which we reach our ovulatory phase. No one has control over life, and your body will ovulate when it chooses and deems it to be safe enough
❗
Once you’ve ovulated, you enter your luteal phase, and this is a totally different ball game. This phase tends to be more “fixed” than anything else, meaning whether you’ve ovulated early or not, if you consistently have an x day luteal phase, you will still have an x day luteal phase. In essence, it mirrors if you’ve produced enough progesterone
✅
The only thing can influence a change in your luteal phase are things like getting off of any hormonal birth control or hormone replacement therapy, being postpartum, and so forth.
.
All in all, ovulation can only be confirmed once it has occurred, but there is so much information in between that can help you cultivate a better understanding of when it will happen and what is currently happening in your body! This is why using FAM is so helpful (check this post)
