MEAL FREQUENCY IS IMPERATIVE TO HEAL A SLOW METABOLISM
.
Whether you’re dealing with hypothalamic amenorrhea, hypothyroidism, or even estrogen dominance, your body’s ability to work efficiently has SLOWED DOWN because it is not getting the nutrients and/or energy it needs to do so.
.
So how frequent should you be eating?
I usually recommend every 3-4 hours.
How does this look like?
🔹️Having 3 meals (Breakfast, lunch and supper) with a snack or two in between
🔹️I always stress to make sure to aim for a minimum of 100g of protein a day with a minimum of 200g of carbs, and fat will fall into place.
🔹️Include a protein and twice the amount of carbs with a bit of fat in every meal.
🔹️Making sure breakfast is had within 30 minutes to 1 hour of waking. This helps replenish your liver’s glycogen stores from the whole night of having nothing to eat which can help mitigate too much cortisol from being produced.
🔹️Snacks are essential to help balance blood sugar levels and energy through the day.
.
Why is this important?
Meal frequency itself doesn’t speed the metabolism up, but rather, it is the fact that you’re providing enough energy to the system to have it work more efficiently that eventually leads to a faster metabolism. Taking stress off of the body and providing it with enough and the right type of fuel is key to helping restore function and signals to the system to NOT go searching for energy within tissues, such as your own organs (like the thymus gland), muscle mass, etc. This is called gluconeogenesis. Like HELLO STRESS.
.
If you’re stressed, it creates a dominoes affect of over taxing your adrenals, suppressing thyroid function, and spiking your insulin levels.
Not fun.
.
If you increase your metabolism, you increase your thyroid function, which increases progesterone production, which can lead to things that we WANT like:
🔸️Getting your period back
🔸️Restoring proper thyroid function
🔸️Helping mobilize estrogen out of tissues
🔸️Fueling our liver adequately to detox properly
