PCOS MYTHS- BUUUUSTED
.
Lies, they’re telling you lies, and we’re here to set the record straight:
1️⃣ Everyone has ‘cysts’ on ovaries: Those ‘cysts’ that many women develop are actually follicles or eggs that one’s ovaries grow- and it can be completely normal for many women, especially if you’re young. However, not everyone with PCOS has them
.
2️⃣You will never get pregnant naturally: Wrong, by working on the root cause, supporting progesterone levels and thyroid function, conceiving naturally is very possible
.
3️⃣Everyone with PCOS is overweight: PCOS is not a weight issue and can be diagnosed in those with smaller frames. Granted, because it is a metabolic issue, many can have difficulty losing weight because it slows the metabolism
.
4️⃣You need birth control as a form of treatment: Many with PCOS aren’t ovulating, and the pill in itself shuts down ovulation. Completely contradictory, so no, you don’t need it
.
5️⃣ You need Metformin to manage it: No, you need to figure out why your blood sugar is high. Look towards stresses that are internally and externally. Blood sugar is not a sugar issue, it is a stress issue
.
6️⃣Androgens are to blame: Androgens are a result of what is happening in the body. It is a stress response to some sort of metabolic chaos
.
7️⃣Weight loss is the only solution: PCOS is not a weight issue, it is a metabolic issue, so just losing weight will not help you get to the root cause
.
8️⃣Going keto fix it: Cutting out carbs will rob your body of its favored source of energy: glucose. Understandably, many with PCOS are insulin resistant, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have carbs. You need to figure out why your cells are desensitized to sugar
.
9️⃣ Must go dairy and gluten free: No diet will fix this, but removing inflammatory foods, fixing leaky gut, and then incorporating them in again can be helpful
.
🔟You can never eat carbs- including fruit: Sugar, particularly from fruit which is fructose, is one of the best sources to reach for because it doesn’t spike one’s insulin. It goes straight to liver which is so helpful for balancing blood sugar.
