First off, let’s understand what aromatization is: It is the process in which a hormone converts into another hormone, in this case estrogen. This is a natural process our body goes through in order to maintain homeostasis. Aromatase, the enzyme that goes through the CYP19A1 pathway, governs this action and is located in the ovaries, placenta, and the lining of the uterus which is typically responsible for converting testosterone to estrogen, but has also been found to manage cortisol when the body is under stress.

Things that can cause aromatization are typically things that will decrease testosterone levels like

🔹️a diet high in PUFAs
🔹️blood sugar dysregulation

Let’s recap: Aromatization is the process in which a hormone converts into another hormone, in this case testosterone to estrogen. Aromatase, the enzyme that goes through the CYP19A1 pathway, governs this action is responsible for converting testosterone to estrogen, but has also been found to manage cortisol when the body is under stress.
Ways to stop this enzyme from converting are to add these natural aromatase inhibitors:

Coffee beans: Has been shown to be able to block aromatase and increase testosterone and DHT. DHT in itself inhibits aromatase and blocks estrogen receptors. Caffeine and caffeic acid suppressed the growth of estrogen receptor and have been shown to reduce the insulin-like growth factor-I receptor (IGFIR) which in turn can impair cell-cycle progression and enhanced cancer cell death☕

Mangosteen: Contains a phytochemical called gamma-mangostin that helps reduce elevated aromatase levels, particularly in breast cancer cells

White button mushrooms: Certain antioxidant compounds such as flavones and isoflavones have been shown to be aromatase inhibitors, reducing aromatase activity and suppressing breast cancer cell proliferation. The white button mushroom contains such compounds. Note here mushrooms should be well cooked for them to work🍄

Oranges: This fruit contains compounds like apigenin, hesperidin and naringenin that have been shown to inhibit aromatase from occurring. Keep in mind fruit is actually one of the most powerful cortisol reducing foods because it is rich in fructose which does NOT require an insulin response, thus not acting as stressful as any other carbohydrate. Glucose is our cells’ preferred source of energy, and this in itself relieves stress off the system which can also be a culprit of high aromatase🍊

Stinging nettle: This plant contains particular compounds like secoisolariciresinol, oleanolic and ursolic acid, (9Z,11E)-13-hydroxy-9,11-octadecadienoic acid, and 14-octacosanol that act as aromatase inhibitors🌱
