Why Are Androgens High in PCOS?

YOUR HIGH LEVELS OF ANDROGENS ARE A RESPONSE TO SOMETHING, NOT THE PROBLEM
.
First off, I recommend you check out my blog post Is PCOS Really an Androgen Issue first.
.
Now, how does this work? Our bodies use testosterone and DHEA as a response to stress, meaning androgen levels rise as a protective mechanism for your tissues, particularly within the organs that contain high levels of androgens like in our brain, heart and lungs, which makes those organs very resilient to stress
.
I know you’re going to ask- BUT WHAT STRESS?
Well, let’s look into PCOS a bit more, there are usually 4 types:
1️⃣Insulin PCOS is correlated to blood sugar dysregulation, and we all know having our blood sugar spike and drop erratically through out the day can be very stressful on the body. The answer? Figure out why your blood sugar is all over the place. This can be poor thyroid function, stress, mineral imbalances, estrogen dominance, liver issues, not enough carbs and/or protein, etc.
.
2️⃣Inflammatory PCOS can be related to a host of issues such as gut bugs, heavy metal toxicity, mold, mental stress and even estrogen accumulation in the tissues. This is IMPORTANT to note, because if we have estrogen accumulated in the tissues it can cause other problems like weight gain, things to GROW (aka ‘cysts’), low thyroid function, sluggish liver, etc. Note here that progesterone is also essential in helping mobilize estrogen out of the liver, calming the body and supporting thyroid function
.
3️⃣Adrenal PCOS is usually connected to autoimmunity, so again, check in with the potential cause of inflammation as previously mentioned
.
4️⃣Post pill is an obvious estrogen issue, considering the fact that it is full of synthetic estrogens shutting down ovulation inhibiting you from producing progesterone, thus allowing estrogen to accumulate in the tissues
.
It’s pretty obvious that many of the things that can cause PCOS are rarely high androgens, but rather estrogen dominance is the real culprit and poor androgens are to blame
