SO YOU WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT…
and you’re thinking, “I have to lose the fat”
It’s a normal train of thought, but have you ever clearly understood that there is a difference between ‘weight loss’ and ‘fat loss’?
.
Think of your body as a recipe. In it, you have a multitude of different ingredients, from bones, to muscles, to water, to ligaments, tendons, different organs, blood, as well as fat. In order to have a body, in order to be functional, you need more than just 1 ingredient correct, meaning our weight is made up of all of these things.
.
However, when it comes to FAT loss, we are specifically picking at what we want to diminish, rather than blindly try and shoot.
Therefore, we weigh more than fat. We weigh muscle, bones, organs, water, and fat. In fact, what makes us increase our fat storage is what we store in our actual fat cells. Fat cells increase and decrease in size, and this mechanism is usually triggered when our bodies feel it needs to set aside extra energy or protect us from particular particles because we have an inability to remove them out of us. This means fat loss is not the literal shedding of fat. Instead, it is the drainage of these fat cells which can contain contain up to 10x their size of hormones, toxins, metals, free fatty acids (including pufas), environmental toxins and glucose. This is why when one gains muscle as a replacement of fat, we look leaner, even if the scale DOESN’T budge because fat cells can grow, where as muscle is a lot more dense.
.
Hence, our goal should rarely ever be to ‘lose weight’ because we don’t want to be tapping into our bone density, muscle stores or even glycogen stores. Instead, we want to be solely focusing on how to diminish the fat cells size.
.
So now the big question is, how do we support the body in differentiating what we want to do rather than lose WEIGHT vs losing FAT?
1. Caloric deficits
2. Providing reason for the body to store energy in muscle rather than fat by intelligently eating for muscle growth
3. Diminishing stress in the metabolism
4. Building a strong metabolism
