How to Increase Your Carbohydrate Threshold

Think you’re carb intolerant?
.
If you can’t tolerate carbohydrates, that is NOT an excuse for you to continue to restrict carbs, but rather a sign that your body is under some sort of stress, struggling with the ability to break down and use carbohydrates. This is a problem, considering how carbohydrates are the prime source of fuel in the body.
Question now is, WHY would your body be struggling?
.
If you haven’t checked out these posts: Causes of Insulin Resistance

please do, but in short, insulin resistance can be caused by things like:
🔸️unbalanced minerals
🔸️stress, whether it be mental, physical or environmental
🔸️hypothyroidism for it can deter your cells from uptaking energy
🔸️estrogen dominance
🔸️have the wrong type of bacterial strains in the gut which can lead to lipopolysaccharides leaking through the gut lining, causing inflammation and high blood sugar
🔸️consumption of oxidized oils like fish oil, omega 3s supplements, grapeseed oil, almond oil, canola, etc.
🔸️and more.
.
BUT IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE LIKE THIS.
You CAN incorporate carbohydrates back into your diet and work your metabolism up,- but it will have to be slowly.
So how do you do it?
1️⃣Start VERY slowly, by eating an extra bite or two every day of carbohydrates. Just like with a food intolerance, you have to get the body use to it.
2️⃣ Opt for easily digestible sugars like fruit or root vegetables that contain fructose. As mentioned in yesterday’s post, fructose rarely requires an insulin spike, thus is sent straight to the liver for energy.
3️⃣ Try eating most of your carbs after a workout. This helps replenish glycogen stores and your body will feel the NEED for the carbs at that time, increasing your threshold.
4️⃣ Eat every 4 hours or so to keep blood sugar stable. Letting the body’s blood sugar levels drop is a stress on the body which signals to the liver to secrete extra glucose.
5️⃣Cycle your meals with low to higher carb through out the day until you reach a “higher” carb intake. For instance, have 10g of carbs of breakfast, and then maybe 30g for lunch, and then back at 10g for dinner.
